Ramblin' Ren's Recipes: Gettin' Gingy With It

Old Fashion Gingerbread Recipe

Things Needed:
~ 1/2 cup white sugar
~ 1/2 cup butter
~ 1 egg
~ 1 cup molasses
~ 2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
~ 1 1/2 teaspoons baking soda
~ 1/2 teaspoon salt
~ 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
~ 1 teaspoon ground ginger
~ 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
~ 1 cup hot water

Directions:
~ Preheat oven to 350 degrees F. Grease & flour one 9 inch square pan.
~ Cream together the sugar & butter(or margarine). Add egg & beat well. Mix in the molasses.
~ Sift together the flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, ginger, & cloves. Add dry ingredients to the creamed mixture. Add the hot water & mix well.
~ Pour batter into pan & bake for one hour. Allow to cool in pan, top with confectioners' sugar(optional), & serve.

Ren's Recommendations:
~ I prefer to use a glass pan. For me it's always worked better.
~ If all you have is self-rising flour leave out the baking soda & salt.
~ If you want the confectioners' sugar to stay white wait to sprinkle it on top of the gingerbread until you're ready to serve it. If it sets on the gingerbread it will turn brown.

Hope you guys enjoy this & it works as well for y'all as it does for me. Let me know what you think if you try it. Ciao for now.
