Summary(from GoodReads):
A hidden truth.
Mortal enemies.
Doomed love.
Marked as special at an early age, Jacinda knows her every move is watched. But she longs for freedom to make her own choices. When she breaks the most sacred tenet among her kind, she nearly pays with her life. Until a beautiful stranger saves her. A stranger who was sent to hunt those like her. For Jacinda is a draki—a descendant of dragons whose greatest defense is her secret ability to shift into human form.
Forced to flee into the mortal world with her family, Jacinda struggles to adapt to her new surroundings. The only bright light is Will. Gorgeous, elusive Will who stirs her inner draki to life. Although she is irresistibly drawn to him, Jacinda knows Will's dark secret: He and his family are hunters. She should avoid him at all costs. But her inner draki is slowly slipping away—if it dies she will be left as a human forever. She'll do anything to prevent that. Even if it means getting closer to her most dangerous enemy.
Mythical powers and breathtaking romance ignite in this story of a girl who defies all expectations and whose love crosses an ancient divide.

My Thoughts:
If you follow me on Twitter or read my last WWW Wednesday post you know that I had originally said Firelight wasn't "wowing" me like I thought it would. I had high expectations for this book. Partly because I've been looking forward to reading it for so long & partly because everyone I talked to about it had such high praise for it. I finally got a chance to finish reading Firelight & it met my expectations . . . and then it surassed them.
Jacinda was a great main character; strong & independent. She refused to lose sight of what she wanted even when everyone told her she couldn't have it. At times I did feel like the pace of the book would slow a bit & that, at these times, the sentences would be short. Then I noticed that this only happened when Jacinda was at her lowest.Her draki was at it's weakest & she felt as though life was just dragging on & on and she just had to muddle through & suffer in silence for her mom & sister's sake. After I realized this it didn't bother me since it made sense for the story & the character.
I loved Jacinda & Will's relationship. They were so cute together & things never felt forced. I know a lot of people said they liked that Jacinda was the supernatural/ dangerous one, but I felt like both she and Will were dangerous. I'm still not sure how I feel about Cassian. At times he didn't seem so bad & at other times I couldn't stand him. One character I didn't like? Tamra. She just seemed self-absorbed & whiny. At least Jacinda's mom had a reason for the way she acted.
The ending was bittersweet. I almost cried at the end of this book. I felt so bad for Jacinda. I can't wait to read Vanish & find out what happens next. Things have to get better for her. I ended up really loving Firelight. I can't wait to see what Sophie has in store for us next. I do have one question though; what exactly are the draki supposed to look like?
